Ribbon

Thermal transfer ribbons are an indispensable component in the printing process. These specialty ribbons are used in thermal transfer label printers and plastic card printers to transfer ink material to the print surface for crisp, crisp images.
There are several types of ribbons for thermal transfer printing, each of which has its own characteristics:

Wax ribbons

Wax ribbons have the best price and widest color range. They are widely used for printing on paper (paper labels and cardboard), providing high image clarity and contrast. Wax ribbons are ideal for short-term use or temporary marking applications.

Wax/Resin ribbons

Wax/Resin ribbons combine the benefits of both Wax and Resin ribbons. They have better abrasion and abrasion resistance, making them ideal for printing on plastic and polypropylene labels. Wax/Resin ribbons provide clear, durable images even when exposed to moisture or a variety of chemicals.

Resin ribbons (resin)

Resin ribbons, which are characterized by the highest level of resistance and durability. They are ideal for printing on materials with a surface that is designed to withstand high temperatures, moisture, ultraviolet radiation or chemically aggressive substances. Resin ribbons provide a deep, rich print that remains durable even under extreme operating conditions.

Main technical characteristics of ribbons

The main TX ribbons include:

  • tape width
  • ribbon length (so-called winding)
  • type of coating (Wax, Wax/Resin, Resin)

In addition, it is important to consider the quality level of thermal transfer printing (203dpi, 300dpi, 600dpi), resistance to abrasion, moisture, ultraviolet radiation and chemical influences, as well as compatibility with a specific thermal transfer printer model.

Ribbons for thermal transfer printing are designed to work with various models of thermal transfer printers and plastic card printers. Some of the popular ribbon compatible thermal transfer printer brands include Zebra, TSC, Honeywell, Evolis and others. When choosing a ribbon, you need to pay attention to its compatibility with your specific printer to ensure optimal print quality and predictable print results.
